Highlights of Summer Meetings

You made a splash in Davenport! I don’t think it is going to be a summer meetings that we forget quickly. We had a 140 registrants for the event, with 50 people signed up to play softball, and the Social Media Leads class with Carrie Little had more than 70 attendees! Thank you to all who joined us in the Quad Cities and a big thank you to the Quad City Area REALTOR Association for a spectacular event!

One of the main topics discussed at the meetings was the switching of the state’s membership database system from Rapattoni Magic to RAMCO. This does not affect Rapattoni MLSs and will allow for greater use of shared information between local boards and the state association allowing for a better member experience.

IAR’s Building Presidential Advisory Group is moving forward to review possible options for buying, building or leasing in the Des Moines Metro area. No decisions have been made at this time. IAR’s current lease is up in the Spring of 2019.

Senator Roby Smith, from Scott County, spoke to our Legislative Committee. He discussed the process of how a bill becomes a law. There was a lot of discussion around the First Time Home Buyer Savings program that was recently passed in Iowa. IAR will be working with government entities on educating the public about this great new program set to kickoff on January 1, 2018. The National Association of REALTORS has approved IAR to be part of a pilot program to help promote and educate potential homebuyers on this program. IAR hopes to have more details to share this fall.

The REALTOR Foundation of Iowa (RFI) discussed the second year of the successful Project Jack - Pay It Forward program. RFI will be sponsoring Chris Norton to come and speak to schools in eastern Iowa this fall. RFI will have 5 vacancies at the end of this year. Visit realtorfoundationofiowa.org for more information.

The Communications Committee meeting shared several updates. IAR staff is working to move the content from the current website to the new website. The new website will provide a much better user experience! The new website will be responsive to any device, much easier to search for information and provide a more efficient platform for staff to manage and share news. The new website should go live in early July.  New member packets have been updated to reflect the new brand and logo. The content has been refreshed to educate members on IAR’s value and services provided. A new member orientation video is in the final stages of editing. This video will be used at local boards and short segments will be shared via social media channels to engage and educate new members.

The Slate of Officers for 2018 was presented by the Nominating Committee.

This list of officers will be reviewed and ready for approval at the IAR Convention in September.
