2018 started off with a rise in both the number of sales and price from 2017.  In January, home sales rose 3.1% and median sale price increased by 4.2%.

According to the Housing Trends Report from the Iowa Association of REALTORS®,  2,207 homes were sold this January compared to 2,140 homes sold in January 2017. The median sale price in January came in at $150,000 while the 2017 median sale price in January was $144,000.

Homes continue to sell quickly in most metro areas in Iowa. Days on market dropped 10% from a year ago. Homes were sold in an average of 80 days compared to 89 days in 2017.

The Iowa Association of Realtors® is the state’s largest real estate professional organization representing over 7,100 members and affiliates. The IAR releases a Housing Trends Report each month. Data is collected from local Realtor® boards through their multiple listing service (MLS), which tracks sales activities in the board area. IAR compiles all of the local board data into the statewide report each month. Reports are available online to IAR members and affiliates with a login and password. Anyone is eligible to become an IAR affiliate.
