Tornado Relief 

Following devastating storms in southwestern and central Iowa, the Iowa Association of REALTORS® wants to ensure Iowans are afforded the resources to rebuild their homes and sense of community.

In partnership with the REALTORS® Relief Foundation (RRF), IAR will provide up to $1,500 in housing relief to displaced individuals who primarily reside in Clarke, Crawford, Harrison, Mills, Polk, Ringgold, Shelby, Union, and Pottawattomie counties.

Severe storms and 24 tornadoes wreaked havoc on many parts of Iowa on April 26. More than 300 residences and buildings were damaged during the storms, significantly impacting the housing for hundreds of Iowans.

 

Grant Details

The Iowa Association of REALTORS® understands the vast devastation that occurred across the state of Iowa and the need for financial and outside support to rebuild these communities. IAR partnered with the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) to provide storm relief for the areas of Iowa impacted by the recent storms and tornadoes on April 26, 2024. NAR's REALTORS® Relief Foundation has awarded IAR a $150,000 grant. This grant can help individuals that have been impacted by the tornadoes with mortgage payment assistance or rental costs due to displacement up to $1,500 per applicant.

Application Guidelines

Qualifications for the REALTORS® Relief Foundation assistance include:

  • Individual grants may be approved up to a limit of $1,500 per household.
  • Recipient must be a primary resident of the following counties: Clarke, Crawford, Harrison, Mills, Polk, Ringgold, Shelby, Union, and Pottawattamie

Assistance is available to qualified applicants as one of the following options:

  • Monthly mortgage expense for the primary residence that was damaged during the severe storms on April 26, 2024.
  • Rental cost due to displacement from the primary residence resulting from the severe storms of April 26, 2024.
  • Reimbursement for hotels lodging required due to displacement from primary residence as a result of severe storms on April 26. 2024. Reimbursement only covers hotel room and tax costs.
  • Relief assistance is limited to a maximum of $1,500 per household.

Please note this assistance is for housing relief only; other expenses including second mortgages (home equity lines or loans), clothing, appliances, equipment, vehicle purchase, rental or repair, and or mileage are ineligible for reimbursement under this program. 

All grants are contingent upon the availability of funds. As a result, aid will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis.

REALTORS® Relief Foundation

Provides housing-related assistance to disaster impacted communities through the generosity of REALTORS®, state, and local associations and industry partners.

In 2001, NAR Executive Leadership team formed RRF due to the necessity of providing urgent housing-related assistance for those struggling with the aftermath of 9/11. $36 million in aid has helped 19,000 families. RRF is supported generously by the Realtor® community.
