Sales Dip Slightly, Prices Continue Upward Trend in September

September home sales in Iowa dipped slightly 2.9 percent when compared to September of 2016. The median sales price climbed 2 percent from the price in September of last year.

The Housing Trends Report from the Iowa Association of REALTORS® (IAR) shows September home sales came in at 3,817 properties, while 3,933 were sold September of last year. Median sale price rose to $152,200 from $149,000 in September 2016.

Days on market dropped to 71 days on market last month, while in September of 2016 it took an average of 73 days to sell a home.

“It is common for the seasonal slow down to begin in September. Real Estate is still relatively strong in Iowa. Year-to-date sales are 2.2 percent higher than last year. Our Inventory numbers are slowly increasing.  Mortgage rates are still at a very good rate. Interested buyers can still get into a new home before the end of the year,” stated IAR President Cindy Miller.

The information used to create the IAR September 2017 Housing Trends Report was current as of October 16, at 10:00 a.m. The information is subject to change due to the dynamic nature of the IAR’s housing statistics system, which is updated hourly based on information present in local participating MLS (multiple listing service) systems.
